# Reykjavík Recommendations 2025-05-12 ### Breakfast & Coffee - **Sandholt**: French bakery with Icelandic twists. Best sourdough - can sit in or take away. - **Deig**: Bagel and bakery. Get the 'Costanza' for a "Brick Lane Bagel", cinnoman cruller and kókómjólk. - **Brauð&Co**: Cinnamon buns and great loafs of bread. Their vínabrauð is also terrific. - **Kaffi Ó Le**: Best fancy coffee in town. Best roaster is Kaffibrugghúsið on Grandi. - **Reykjavik Roasters**: There are a few of these around town - good if you spot them and need a hit. ### Lunch - **Apótek**: Great "catch of the day" fish. In the evening they do great steak too. - **Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur**: Famous hot dog stand with too many sauces and sweet apple purée ketchup but it works. You can also grab them around the corner at 10-11 convenience store and skip the queue. - **Fine**: Authentic Chinese, beef noodle dish are the best noodles in town. In the evening get the chili chicken, some soup and dumplings. - **Jómfrúin**: Smörrebröd with some good warm dishes too. Great for a boozy lunch, get the schnaps if you're feeling cheeky. Also a good evening option - you can go wild with half and half sandwiches (half HC Andersen and half salmon for example). They have a dish called "shrimp pyramid". I keep asking them to make merchendise but they won't listen. Best service in town. - **Chickpea**: Falafel bowls and wraps. - **Shalimar**: Hole-in-the-wall Pakistane. Get the thali platter. ### Dinner - **Austur Indía**: Legendary Indian food. Pricey but good. - **Skál**: New-nordic but not self important, just fun and boozey. Get the cod wings. - **La Primavera**: Great pasta, great service - great rotating lunch menus too. - **2guys at Hlemmur**: Great smash burgers. - **Le Kock**: Sister resturant to Deig. Good burgers and cocktails. Family friendly. - **Sumac**: Do you like dips? Lebanese grilled bread, meat skewers - red wine? My fav I think. - **Ban Thai**: Legendary thai, get shrimp 107 or green curry with extra side of roti bread. - **Poblana**: Mexican. Only been here once, but I keep hearing good things and the food is good. Food halls can be ok but I tend to stay away from them - the staff is just seems unhappy and the vibe is cooked. Never pay tips. Staff is often foreign. There are a *lot* of tourist traps.
